In 1962 by William Thomas
Bolton and Virginia Rayburn Bolton began the Wax Museum attractions at Fair Park in Dallas
Texas. Virginia Rayburn Bolton was Sam Rayburn’s
niece. Sam Rayburn was the longest sitting Speaker of
the House of the United States House of Representatives.
The
Southwestern Historical Wax Museum attraction moved to
it’s Grand Prairie location in 1972. In 1988 a fire
completely destroyed the attraction and the beautiful
Palace of Wax building (see details below) was constructed
in it’s place at great personal cost to the family.
A Ripley’s Believe It or Not! attraction was also
built within the Palace and won Ripley’s Franchise
of the year in 1999.
The Plaza Theatre of Wax in downtown
San Antonio on Alamo Plaza was opened on February 1, 1987. In January
2000, and is now known as Louis Tussaud’s Plaza Wax Museum®.
The company also opened a Ripley's believe It or Not!®.
Through
recent acquisitions and ongoing in-house production of
exceptional quality wax figures, Ripley Entertainment,
Inc. is now the second largest owned wax collection in
the entire world.
